Island Hopping in Kagawa: Three Days with a Private Villa Base in Sakaide

Plan a family island-hopping break in Kagawa: choose between a sightseeing cruise and an itinerary with time ashore, then return to a private garden villa in Sakaide. A relaxed three-day plan with Archit Stay as your base.

After a day on the water, come back to Archit Stay as the house and garden light up at dusk.

A sightseeing cruise and an island visit are different days out

Start by deciding whether you want to see the islands from the water or spend time walking ashore. A short cruise past islands and bridges is a different outing from landing for a stroll and lunch. Choose what your family wants to do before counting how many islands to visit.

BAY MARINA in Sakaide offers cruising. Its standard sightseeing cruise does not include shore visits, but you can ask us in advance about a custom plan that includes going ashore. Tell us your date, group size, children's ages and how you would like to spend time on the islands. Destinations, prices and landing arrangements are confirmed with the operator before booking.

If a particular island or art museum is the purpose of the trip, start with transport to that destination and any required museum booking. This does not mean every island can be reached on a custom BAY MARINA trip. Check the departure port, return port and accommodation together on a map before building the day around them.

  • For a short time on the water: consider a sightseeing cruise and check the sailing duration.
  • For time to explore ashore: agree the landing destination and time on the island in advance.
  • For a specific attraction: arrange the outward and return transport alongside admission reservations.
Our bright, garden-facing dining room: a place to gather as a family and talk about the next island outing.

For a landing, choose the island experience before the boat

Decide whether the family wants a harbour stroll, lunch on an island or a visit to a particular museum. That choice helps determine how much time ashore you need. Seeing several islands from a boat and exploring one island slowly are both ways to enjoy Setouchi; choose time well spent rather than the highest island count.

When enquiring, send your date, numbers of adults and children, children’s ages, what you would like to do ashore and your preferred return time. We will check destinations and arrangements with the operator. If you book a private chef for dinner, leave time after returning to the marina to reach the house and take a break before the meal.

A three-day stay with the boat trip in the middle

Give the boat trip its own day between arrival and departure. Leave your bags at the house, head out with what you need and return without another change of accommodation. This plan is for a family exploring Kagawa by car and staying at Archit Stay.

  1. Day 1 · Lunch

    Start with Sanuki udon

Begin with a bowl of Sanuki udon. Some shops have short opening hours, so choose one that works with your arrival rather than planning a long list of stops. Keep the first day at the family's pace.

  2. Day 1 · Late afternoon

Check in from 15:00 and settle into the house

Unpack, choose bedrooms and take a break. Confirm tomorrow's meeting point and what to bring, then enjoy the garden outlook or living room. Keep the first evening free of a long drive.

  3. Day 1 · Evening

Let a private chef take care of dinner

A private chef is available at Archit Stay. Ask in advance if you would like to leave dinner to someone else. Afterwards, relax together and turn in ready for a day on the water.

  4. Day 2 · Morning to lunch

Set out from BAY MARINA on your agreed itinerary

Arrive at the marina at the time agreed with the operator. On a plan with landings, make the time ashore as much a part of the trip as the views from the boat. Decide beforehand whether lunch will be on the island or something you bring with you.

  5. Day 2 · Late afternoon and evening

Return to your own space for the evening

After returning from the water, take a break at the house and look through the day's photographs around the table. Arrange cooking, takeaway or a private chef around your expected return, so dinner does not require starting the planning again.

  6. Day 3 · Morning and departure

Check out by 10:00, with one last view of the bridge

Have breakfast, pack and check out by 10:00. If your onward journey allows, visit Seto Ohashi Memorial Park or Higashiyama Kaii Setouchi Art Museum. Check the museum calendar first and leave enough time for your journey home.

Choose a base for both the port and the evening afterwards

Staying beside a port and staying in a private house offer different advantages. Archit Stay in Sakaide is a whole-house rental with a garden and green-hill views, not a waterfront hotel or a property connected to a ferry terminal. Include the transfer to your boat's meeting point in the plan.

At Archit Stay, we provide three bedrooms for up to six guests and parking for three vehicles. Downstairs is a twin bedroom; upstairs are a room with two semi-double beds and a separate room with two futon sets. Use the floor plan to choose how generations or parents and children will share the rooms.

Keep a good day in reserve if sailing is not possible

Sailing and landing decisions depend on weather and sea conditions. Have an alternative you would genuinely enjoy, such as the art museum and a relaxed meal at the house, rather than spending the day trying to find another boat. Check the accommodation and cruise change or cancellation terms separately.

With children, ask the operator about boarding requirements, correctly sized life jackets, toilets and shelter from sun or rain. Choose a duration that suits the family rather than the longest available trip. An unhurried visit to one island can be just as memorable.
