A Family Stay in Sakaide: Bedrooms, Transport and Two Days in Kagawa

Sanuki udon, island hopping with shore visits arranged through BAY MARINA, and an optional private chef for dinner at Archit Stay. Plan two days in Sakaide with space for three generations of six guests.

Sanuki udon and a different view of the Setouchi islands

Begin with the Sanuki udon you have been looking forward to, then take to the water for views of the islands and Seto Ohashi Bridge. We suggest giving your Kagawa holiday one shared experience to remember, rather than filling it with stops. A familiar family lunch and a private cruise make quite different parts of the same day.

After the cruise, settle into our garden-facing living room at Archit Stay. Pair time on the water with time in one house, so the trip has space for both discovery and rest. On a day without a cruise, choose Seto Ohashi Memorial Park or the Higashiyama Kaii Setouchi Art Museum according to the weather and your family's interests.

Choosing a Kagawa holiday home: start with the boat trip and your evenings

A convenient base for island hopping depends on the boat you intend to take. Scheduled services from Takamatsu to Naoshima or Shodoshima are different from a cruise arranged through BAY MARINA in Sakaide, with different departure points and booking arrangements. Start with the island and boat, then decide whether you will connect by car, on foot or by public transport.

Archit Stay is a garden holiday home in Oyabu, Sakaide. We suggest heading out by car or arranged taxi and returning to the house for the evening. It is not a walk-to-Takamatsu-Port stay; it suits families arriving in separate cars who want to combine a boat outing with dinner together back at the house.

  • Day trips by scheduled ferry: check the journey to the departure port and the connection home after the return sailing. If several days start early, compare accommodation close to that port.
  • Slow evenings and mornings on an island: consider staying on the island itself. You avoid a return sailing at the end of each day, but need to plan arrival and departure boats with your luggage.
  • A boat outing followed by an evening in a private house: consider Sakaide with an arranged BAY MARINA experience. Agree landing destinations and pricing in advance; this is not a hop-on replacement for scheduled ferries.

Island hopping with shore visits through BAY MARINA

The Setouchi islands can be more than a view from the boat. Island-hopping arrangements with BAY MARINA can include going ashore, with the itinerary agreed in advance. Cross the water, step onto an island and enjoy a different pace together. Tell us what your family would like to experience when enquiring about your stay.

Please discuss landing destinations, duration and pricing in advance, along with your dates, group size and children's ages. Book the cruise separately from your stay. If sea conditions change the plan, choose an afternoon at the art museum instead. Allow enough time after returning to port to enjoy dinner without rushing.

For a shorter outing, the standard sightseeing cruise passes Mitsugo-jima, Yoshima and Koyoshima in about an hour. The standard booking page below is for that cruise and does not include shore visits; please enquire separately if you would like an itinerary with landings.

Our suggested two-day stay in Sakaide

Enjoy Sanuki udon at lunchtime, island hopping in the afternoon and a family dinner at Archit Stay. An optional private chef lets the usual cook relax too. For this two-day driving plan, agree departure and return times for any shore visits first, then fit check-in from 15:00 and dinner around them.

  1. Day 1 · Lunch

Begin with a Sanuki udon lunch

Choose one udon shop and let everyone order their favourite bowl. Enjoy the meal without rushing to a second restaurant. Lunch is a taste of everyday Kagawa; later, the view changes to the open water.

  2. Day 1 · Afternoon

Set out from BAY MARINA for island hopping and time ashore

Leave the marina on the itinerary arranged in advance. Enjoy the view from the water and spend time together ashore. Agree destinations and time on the islands around the operating conditions for your date. If you choose a shorter sightseeing cruise instead, you may be able to check in from 15:00 before sailing.

  3. Day 1 · Late afternoon

Return from the islands and settle into the house

After returning to port, head to Archit Stay; check-in starts at 15:00. Put down your bags and rest in the garden-facing living room. If you have booked a private chef, enjoy your photographs together until the dinner time agreed in advance.

  4. Day 1 · Evening

A private-chef dinner around your family table

A private chef is available at Archit Stay. Leave the cooking to the chef so the person who usually prepares dinner can sit down with everyone else. Share stories from the islands over dinner, then move to the living room. Please discuss dates, group size and meal preferences when booking the chef.

  5. Day 2 · Morning

Have breakfast with a view of the garden

Make breakfast, leave a little time to look out at the garden, then pack for departure. Checkout is at 10:00, so allow yourself an easy start to the morning.

  6. Day 2 · After checkout

Visit the Higashiyama Kaii Setouchi Art Museum

Visit the museum on an opening day, then head home. If you went there on day one instead of sailing, choose a short stop at Seto Ohashi Memorial Park. Or leave the final morning simple and head straight home if the children are tired.

Six people, three bedrooms: decide who sleeps where

For six guests, start by counting who needs a bed rather than a futon. With grandparents, parents and two children, separate rooms for each generation can make different bedtimes easier. Bedroom count also matters when some people wake early and others prefer a slower morning.

At Archit Stay, we provide three bedrooms: two single beds in bedroom 1 downstairs, two semi-double beds in bedroom 2 upstairs and two futon sets in bedroom 3 upstairs. For three generations, try grandparents in the first room, parents in the second and two children in the third, so everyone can keep their own bedtime.

Sleeping six does not mean having six individual beds. At our house, a group of six uses four beds and two futons. If anyone is unfamiliar with sleeping on a futon, decide who would enjoy the tatami room before choosing the house. For two families, start by deciding whether children will share with parents or with one another.

A floor plan for three generations

Archit Stay floor plan: a twin bedroom, living room, dining room, kitchen and bathroom downstairs; a bedroom with two semi-double beds and a room with two futons upstairs.
A twin bedroom downstairs; two semi-doubles and a separate futon room upstairs. We provide parking for three vehicles. Enlarge floor plan

Our downstairs twin bedroom shares a floor with the living room, dining room and bathroom. Give grandparents this room and parents and children the upstairs rooms, and grandparents can keep meals and bathing downstairs. It is a way to enjoy time together while leaving everyone space to rest.

Upstairs, we have a bedroom with two semi-double beds and a Japanese-style room with two futons. Parents and children can sleep in separate rooms while staying on the same floor. Come downstairs for meals and baths; toilets are on both floors.

In the morning, set out bread and fruit you picked up the day before and take a moment to enjoy the garden. With the kitchen and living room on the same floor, the conversation can continue while you make tea. We would rather your holiday began with time together than with an elaborate breakfast to prepare.

Separate cars need a shared parking plan

Different generations may arrive from different places in separate cars. At Archit Stay, we provide parking for three vehicles, so you can head out together or make separate plans and meet back at the same house in the evening.

If you arrive by train, a rental car or arranged taxi from Sakaide Station can make outings and shopping easier to plan. Book enough taxis for your group and bags, and plan the next morning's journey at the same time. The JR Shikoku guide below shows the station boarding points.

A Kagawa villa: choose the setting you want to return to

Would you like to spend the day at a sea-view villa, or head out by boat or car and return to a house for the evening? The right Kagawa holiday home depends on that choice. At Archit Stay, the setting is a garden and a bedroom looking towards green hills, rather than sea-view guest rooms.

Three bedrooms for up to six guests let generations or friends sleep separately. Pair an island outing with an optional private-chef dinner when you return. Choose not just for the destinations you can visit, but for the evening you want to spend at the house.

One night for a focused outing, two for an unhurried island day

For a one-night trip with udon and a boat outing, build arrival day backwards from the agreed sailing time. After a long journey, a short sightseeing cruise or a park-and-museum visit the following day may fit better than a trip ashore. Choose an outing that suits the nights available and leave room for dinner at the house.

For a landing with time to walk and have lunch, we suggest two nights: settle in on arrival day, spend the middle day on the water and islands, then travel onwards on day three. Staying at Archit Stay for both nights lets you leave your main luggage at the house. Check the boat and accommodation separately before settling on dates.

Make the evening part of the trip

At Archit Stay, you can book a private chef for dinner at the house. Enjoy a meal around your own family table without heading out to another restaurant. Ask about dates, group size, menu preferences and pricing when enquiring about your stay.

When the children still have energy but the adults are ready to sit down, take a break in our garden-facing living room. At Archit Stay, we also have rooms with tatami and shoji screens and a bedroom overlooking green hills. Enjoy both the conversations together and a little time to yourself.

After time on the water, leave the evening without another outing to fit in. Talk in the living room after dinner, then let everyone retire to their own bedroom when ready. The next morning, enjoy the garden before departure. We suggest balancing a memorable shared experience with time that belongs entirely to your family.

At Archit Stay, we welcome up to six family members or friends. Rest in three separate bedrooms and come together around one table. We would love a night at our house to be part of your Setouchi trip. Find room photographs and booking information on our property page.
