Fujiyoshida with Family or Friends: Choosing a Holiday Home by Bedrooms and Transport
A Japanese restaurant lunch, a barbecue dinner in our cave-inspired living and dining space, and room for the whole family. Plan two days in Fujiyoshida, with an optional private chef and a light breakfast provided when you book the chef.

A Fuji holiday the children enjoy and the adults can relax into
On a family holiday, the person who usually organises the meals and plans deserves a break too. We want to make room for both the outing the children are excited about and an evening when the adults can sit down and enjoy dinner. Our suggested two days leave time for everyone, rather than trying to fit in the most stops.
For views, consider Arakurayama Sengen Park; for local history, Kitaguchi Hongu Fuji Sengen Shrine; for a child-focused outing, Thomas Land at Fuji-Q Highland. The staircase towards the pagoda at Arakurayama has 398 steps. With young children or anyone who finds stairs difficult, look at the walking route before committing to the viewpoint.
- A day for views and good food: combine Arakurayama with a leisurely Japanese restaurant lunch, then return to the house in time to enjoy the evening together.
- A town-and-history day: choose the shrine, Fujisan Museum or both, depending on your group.
- A day led by the children: Thomas Land for younger guests, or Fuji-Q Highland attractions that interest older children. Let them help choose what to do, checking ride requirements as you plan.
Choosing a Mount Fuji view villa: where will you see the mountain?
A Mount Fuji view can mean different things: a glimpse from a garden or a view from inside the house. Think about when you want to enjoy it, whether during a sauna session or an unhurried morning, and check the actual viewing spaces before choosing your villa.
At KODOU FUJI, Mount Fuji is visible from the sauna and the upper floor. On clear days, adults can take turns in the sauna while the family relaxes in the cave-inspired living room. Visibility depends on weather. For the days when clouds cover the mountain, there is still a barbecue dinner to share and four bedrooms to settle into. We suggest choosing for both the view and the time together.
Our suggested two-day stay in Fujiyoshida
Begin with a Japanese restaurant lunch and a short outing, then arrive at KODOU FUJI with the evening still ahead. Make barbecue dinner in our cave-inspired living and dining space the centrepiece of the stay. We recommend our optional private-chef service when you want to leave the cooking to someone else. The next day is for an outing the children choose. This plan is for families travelling by car.
Day 1 · Lunch
A Koshu wine beef lunch at Kokorogi
Begin at Kokorogi, the Japanese restaurant at Highland Resort Hotel & Spa, with its charcoal-grilled Koshu wine beef lunch set. Give the first meal of the trip its own place in the day. Arrange a table and confirm the menu for your date before setting off.
Day 1 · Afternoon
Take a walk at Kitaguchi Hongu Fuji Sengen Shrine
After lunch, take a leisurely walk at the shrine. Keep to one main outing so there is time to enjoy the house later. In rain, choose Fujisan Museum instead. Leave room to follow the children's pace rather than adding another drive.
Day 1 · Late afternoon
Settle into the cave-inspired living room
After checking in, relax in the living room and choose your bedrooms. Spend time with the children or let the adults take turns in the sauna. If you have arranged a private chef, leave the cooking to the chef and enjoy the time before dinner.
Day 1 · Evening
A barbecue evening in our cave-inspired living and dining space
Bring food from the garden barbecue to the table in our cave-inspired living and dining space. Eat, talk and settle into the sofas, with the house just for your family. A private chef is also available: leave the cooking to the chef so the adults who usually prepare dinner can enjoy the table with everyone else.
Day 2 · Morning
Book the private chef and wake up to a light breakfast
When you book the private chef, a simple breakfast is also provided for the following morning. With no need to prepare breakfast from scratch, there is more time to sit down together. Afterwards, get ready, pack and check out for your next outing.
Day 2 · After checkout
Head to Fuji-Q Highland or choose a mountain view
Choose Thomas Land for a child-focused day, or Arakurayama Sengen Park if the family would rather enjoy a mountain view. Pick one main outing and leave time for the journey home.
Count sleeping groups, not just guests
Capacity is a useful filter, but an eight-person house is not automatically a good fit for two families. Will each family share a bedroom, or will the children sleep together? Do grandparents need beds rather than futons? Write down who would share each room before deciding how many bedrooms you need.
For four adults and four children, four bedrooms may work well if each pair of parents and each pair of children has a room. For two grandparents, two parents and two children, three rooms can separate the generations. Families with younger children may prefer to sleep together, making the beds within each room more important than the room count. Check the rules for bed-sharing and extra bedding.
At KODOU FUJI, we provide four bedrooms with one king bed, two double beds, four single beds and two futon sets. Shared beds and futons accommodate up to twelve guests. Use the rooms by family or by generation, choosing the arrangement that suits how you like to sleep.
- Two families, eight guests: consider two rooms for the parents and two for pairs of children, then check the floor plan against those groups.
- Three generations, six guests: consider twin beds for grandparents, the king for parents and another twin room for children; also check stairs and bathroom access.
- Eleven or twelve guests: share the king and double beds and use up to two futons in the upstairs king bedroom.

How the floor plan works for a family stay

On our ground floor, the cave-inspired living and dining space and kitchen sit alongside two twin bedrooms. Move from dinner to the sofas without changing floors. Separate sleeping and shared spaces let some guests turn in early while the others continue their evening together.
For a family sharing one room, we suggest the upstairs king bedroom with its two futon spaces. Our other upstairs bedroom has two double beds. Two families can take a room each or spread out into the downstairs twins. Some parent-and-child room combinations are on different floors; use the plan to choose the setup you would enjoy most.
We have a bathroom and toilet on each floor. Families can divide bath time between floors and get ready separately in the morning. Our downstairs twins suit guests who prefer to keep meals, bathing and sleeping on the ground floor.
Coming from different places? Make the house your meeting point
When grandparents and parents, or two families, are travelling from different places, there is no need to coordinate every stop from lunch onwards. Travel at your own pace and meet at the house after check-in. Make dinner the shared plan, so a delayed connection or road journey does not rearrange the whole day for everyone.
One useful arrangement is for the drivers to bring dinner and breakfast supplies while those coming by train travel lighter. KODOU FUJI has parking for two large vehicles or three small ones. Count luggage space as well as seats when choosing cars. Plan around the agreed check-in time rather than assuming early luggage storage is available.
By car, check parking. By train, plan your transfer
With a car, the important question is often less about the nearest station and more about parking, unloading and getting out again in the morning. Two families arriving separately need enough spaces. A rental vehicle needs room for bags and a pushchair as well as people. Save both the property address and the parking information for your outings.
If you arrive by train, plan both the transfer and dinner at the house in advance. Whether you book a private chef or prepare your own barbecue, avoiding another outing for dinner makes the evening easier with young children. Arrange enough taxis for your group and bags.
At KODOU FUJI, we provide free parking for two large vehicles or three small ones. We are approximately fifteen minutes on foot or three minutes by taxi from Kotobuki Station, and around three minutes by car from Fujiyoshida Nishikatsura Smart IC. Make the house your base for days out and evenings together.

Official Fujiyoshida Tourist Guide: AccessLet the chef cook, so the whole family can enjoy dinner
On holiday, dinner should not mean one person spending the evening cooking for everyone else. At KODOU FUJI, you can book a private chef and spend that time listening to the children or sharing a meal with grandparents. To us, part of the luxury is giving the usual cook a place at the table too.
Enjoy food from the garden barbecue in our cave-inspired living and dining space, then move to the sofas to look at photographs or continue the conversation. There is no journey back from a restaurant at the end of the evening, just your family and the house.
When you book the private chef, a simple breakfast is also provided for the following morning. Rather than starting breakfast from scratch, enjoy another meal together before heading out. Please let us know when booking if you would like the chef service.
Our barrel sauna and outdoor bath offer another way for adults to take a little time out. Take turns while other adults stay with the children in the living room or garden. Leave space in the schedule for everyone to enjoy the stay.
Put your must-haves together before comparing prices
When choosing a stay, consider what the children will enjoy, how the adults will rest, where everyone will eat together and how you will divide the bedrooms. Put those needs in your family's own order. Think beyond the photographs to who will be organising and preparing things during the stay.
At KODOU FUJI, gather for a barbecue dinner in our cave-inspired living and dining space, then rest in four separate bedrooms. Choose a private chef when you would like to leave the cooking to someone else. Explore the room photographs on our property page and check its booking panel for the current reservation status and contact details. Ask about chef arrangements along with your preferred dates.
